SIM Card Regulation in Australia

The Australian Communications Media Authority (ACMA) is pushing the mobile phone industry to make some changes in how they advertise their products to consumer.
A SIM card can be worse than a credit card today in terms of hidden fees and charges, so the ACMA wants carriers to specify exactly how much consumers will pay for a two-minute call, a 1 megabyte download and standard text will cost on their service. The ACMA is giving the industry until next year to formulate their recommendations into a code that protects consumers. If they fail to do so, the next step will be a move towards legislation forcing them to change. Once an industry code is formulated and registered with ACMA, any company that violates it can be find up to $250,000 in Federal Court.
